Magdalena Schrefel
Das Stück zur Zeit - ARCHIV DER TRÄNEN
The STÜCK ZUR ZEIT is a research, a movement and an attempt to enter into a dialog with the world. This position opens windows and doors and invites you to join us on this journey. Antigone Akgün, the artist, the thinker - the director has dedicated herself to this position this year. Together we entered into a process of exchange, reflection and looking around corners and in the process we came across the ARCHIVE OF DREAMS and selected this piece together. After all, so many tears have already been cried this year.
In and with this text, Magdalena Schrefel invented a fantastic cosmos.
This ARCHIVE OF TEARS is a surreal thought experiment. The shelves here are bursting with tears and yet are never sufficiently filled, the silence that reigns there is almost magical, and yet everything speaks. The only thing that comes to a stop in this archive is time, which opens up an almost eternal space for storytelling.
In this very special archive, poetically fantastic as well as political tears are distilled and documented and preserved by the archivist for the future. Each individual archive item, which is fed by a relative density of 1.004-1.005 and emotions, is united by the question: What if tears could be preserved as the essence of stories? As a kind of storage medium for feelings, playable like voices on a tape recorder? After all
Each tear has an emotion attached to it: pain, sadness, anger, loneliness, happiness, joy or overwhelming feelings. Countless stories are enclosed in them. Most tears arrive in the archive in handkerchiefs, on paper, written down in words. There are dry and unrelieved tears, those that get caught in the beard and those that choke the voice. Catching a real tear is also a stroke of luck for the archivist. Together with her colleague Fiume, she tries with great passion and meticulousness to counteract the fleeting nature of crying.
And so the ARCHIVE OF DREAMS becomes a space of memory in which everything that has gone before lives on and is constantly expanding. More and more visitors come to deposit their own tears here. For everyone aged 14 and above who likes surprises, likes to be on the move and is curious about the world and the present.
