Didier Eribon
EINE ARBEITERIN. LEBEN, ALTER UND STERBEN
Essay
Eribon had planned to visit his mother more regularly from now on, but only a few weeks after moving her to a nursing home, she dies. This significant caesura in his life becomes the starting point for a journey into the past.
Didier Eribon relentlessly exposes how we repress and have repressed the situation of many old people. At the same time, he once again proves to be a great storyteller: through suggestive episodes and tender memories, he shows how important family and origin are for our identity.
