After the death of her mother, Manuela von Meinhardis, still a student, is sent to a boarding school for girls. Order and discipline prevail, leadership is strict, authoritarian and aims at creating a norm which everyone must follow. Only one teacher meets the girls with sympathy and friendliness. In this environment, Manuela falls in love. Although a normal occurrence, her love widely differs from the norm she is supposed to adhere to, and tragedy unfolds. The HLTM takes on the film classic with cheerfulness and, incorporating pop culture, asks how one can achieve fellowship without restricting the individual.
